The Milwaukee Bucks have acquired Tyler Herro as part of the blockbuster deal for two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Herro, a Milwaukee native, is reportedly looking forward to playing for his new franchise.

What happened?

NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Herro is "thrilled about a fresh start and playing for his hometown team." Haynes added that the 26-year-old "always envisioned returning home at some point during his NBA career."

Herro starred for Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin, and produced over 2,000 points in his high school career. He ended his senior season with averages of 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals.

Why it matters for Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are coming off a disappointing 32-50 finish to the 2025-26 campaign. Last result: Indiana Pacers 119-118 Milwaukee Bucks (2025-04-29). Milwaukee also acquired center Kel'el Ware, swingman Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap and a second-round pick in exchange for Antetokounmpo and veteran forward Bobby Portis.

What comes next?

Injuries limited Herro to just 33 games this past season, so he will undoubtedly be motivated to bounce back in a big way while playing for his hometown team. It won't be easy to replace Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks should be pleased to have a star player who is excited to play in Milwaukee. Herro eventually blossomed into a productive player, earning Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022 and his first All-Star selection in 2025. Now, Herro will get to bring his talents home, as he will take over as the top option for the Bucks. | Stat | Value | | --- | --- | | Points | 32.9 | | Rebounds | 7.4 | | Assists | 3.6 | | Steals | 3.3 | The Bucks are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, and Herro's addition could be a key factor in their success.
